There is a
continuous battle on earth among all human beings over what habits will
dominate them. The world is full of numerous desires which can be divided into
two main parts: Godly desires and ungodly desire. There is constant battle
going on, Satan is tenaciously seeking to take control of the soul of as many
people as possible, he want to rule and dominate man. The strategy he uses is
to get into and influence virtually everything available on the face of the
earth. Even though most things look like not harmful, but underlying them is a
dangerous scheme of Satan to take over the soul of man. Two of these schemes
are through lust and adultery.
How to Overcome Sexual lust- Matthew 5:27, 28.
The dictionary defines lust as having an
eager, passionate, and especially inordinate or sinful desire for the
gratification of sexual appetite or of covetousness.
Sexual
lust is sin; it robs man of a passionate love of God. Your heart is made to
either love God or other things; you cannot do both whole healthily. God wants
you to have an intimate relationship with him. He has given his only son so
that you would realize how wholly committed he is to you, and therefore invite
you to give Him all of your heart.
In the
world, there are different lusts wanting to take you over, sexual lust is one
of them. Sexual lust can quietly eat up a person on the inside.
The Root of Lust
Satan is
the father and source of all evil desire. He is doomed; hell is his portion and
final judgment. He is trying very hard to lure as many people as possible
through
sexual
lust to come with him into eternal destruction. Lust is very deceptive; there
is a note of pleasure attached to it, but really it is destructive. It destroys
lives, families and marriages. The devil is seriously looking for ways to do
his work on earth to kill, steal and to destroy. Lust kills, steals and
destroys. This is something you definitely want to run away from. Lust has been
with mankind throughout history. In fact, at the creation of the world, God met
Adam and Eve’s basic need for food, companionship and protection. Yet he put one
thing out of their reach to test their love for him – the tree of knowledge of
good and evil (Gen. 2:16-17). Due to
lust, they failed God’s test! Satan tempted Eve by telling her that God was
holding back
something
good. She and Adam, through lust, ate the forbidden fruit. As result, they
subjected all mankind to God’s curse (Gen.
3:6, 16-19)
God does
not want you be a prisoner of lust. The bible says, “Christ as set us free! (Gal. 5:1). We have assurance from our
lord that he will help us to battle lust (Romans
8:31-32). Try these practical steps and ask God to lead you to victory.
Ask God for help. Sometimes we are too ashamed to
take this first step. Don’t try to fight the battle of lust on your own. Go to
God and ask Him for help. This is what humility is all about.
Die to Lust. The Bible says “sin does not have
power over dead people” (Roman 6:7).
So to overcome lust, we must recognize that “the person we used to be were
nailed to the cross with Jesus” (Roman
6:5). Of course, we are not actually nailed to the cross. We just recognize
that our old way of life died with Jesus. When we understand what it means to
be dead in sin, we will then find freedom from lust.
Walk in spirit. The next step is to submit your
life to the Holy Spirit. “If you guided
by the spirit, you won’t obey your selfish desire” (Gal. 5:16). Remember, you can’t fight lust on your own, so ask the
Holy Spirit to help you.
Renew your mind. Focus on God’s word and allow
Him to remove your lust actions (Roman. 12:2). Put away everything that appeals
to the flesh and focus on God (Eph. 4:17-24; 2cor. 10:5). Stop feeding your

Lust is
gratified as you feed on things pertaining to lust. Prayerfully begin to resist
those desires. Replace those desires with a desire after the word of God. Spend
more time reading, listening and meditating on the word of God. The word is no
ordinary thing; it is full of Almighty power of God, which is able to save your
soul from bondage to habit and vice. As you spend time I the word, your heart
will be strengthened by the truth and when another day of temptation comes you
will be able to fight for your soul.
Resist and flee. Perhaps the best advice is simply
this: Run! Don’t allow Lust to linger in your mind. Get far away from
situations and influence that threaten to trap you (Prov. 5:8; James 4:7-8). You do this by setting new boundaries.
You will need to stop watching some type of films and TV programs; you know
what defiles you so stay away from them. It might be Helpful to make a list of
things you would need to stay away from and prayerfully plan to keep away them.
